Earth Week Is Here!

So Many Classes Have Badges for Recycling Properly!!!

Finishing our Water Projects for Earth Week

We worked to finish up our projects for Earth Week.

Ocean pollution kills ocean animals, including sea turtles.

BPA is a harmful chemical found in some plastic water bottles.

Sadly, not everyone in the world has access to fresh, clean water.

All kinds of water pollution are bad.

Water is necessary to live.

Ocean pollution and water pollution come from many sources, including drilling and boating.

Earth Week - May 23 - 27 - focuses on WATER

The Super Green Eco Team is learning about WATER this year and will showcase the information we've learned at next week's EARTH WEEK celebration.

This year, the SGET has created a do-it-yourself Earth Week presentation. Please stop by at your convenience and learn about WATER!

• Why is it important?
• How clean is the ocean?
• Does everyone have clean water?
• How clean is the Hudson River?
• What is water.org and what do they do?
Guess the weight of a bucket of water and win a water.org water bottle!

In an effort to support the work of water.org we are selling Camelbak water.org water bottles at the school store.
To learn more about water.org visit their site at www.water.org and watch this video

The SGET inspectors have begun their inspections

February began the SGET Inspections. Each member of the SGET was assigned several classrooms and/or offices to inspect each month. Every month, until the end of the school year, all rooms in PS40 will be inspected. Each month a room passes inspection a badge will be awarded by the SGET inspector and posted on the door.

At our last SGET meeting, held in Ms. Felder's meeting room (the science room was otherwise occupied) the inspector for Ms. Felder's office let her know her office had passed inspection. Her was very pleased and said she had been anxious, because she wants to set a good example.

This is the check list the inspectors use to determine whether or not the classroom or office has passed inspection.

We've got a New Logo!

The whole school was asked to come up with a drawing, using the triangle 'recycle' symbol and over 30 kids made some amazing pictures. A 3rd grader created this drawing and it got the most votes. It will be made into the Super Green Eco Team badges that each class receives after they have passed inspection.

Congratulations, it's beautiful!
